Verismo, in a brewery

Our philosophy

We are Carla and Marcello. In 2022 we opened this brewery at via Pietro Mascagni 29, in Quartu Sant’Elena: the name was already there, on the street sign. Carla makes the beer — years in other people’s brewhouses before this one — and she is a nutritionist too. Pietro Mascagni wrote music about real things: verismo. We like to think of beer the same way: what is in the glass, told as it is. The first one we bottled we called Mascagnotta. Today our bottles are in pubs and restaurants across the island, and in a few pharmacies and vending machines.

The beers and the works

Every beer carries the title of one of the composer’s works or pieces, and a serial number on the label.

Pietro Mascagni

Pietro Mascagni (Livorno 1863 – Rome 1945) opened the verismo season with Cavalleria rusticana: music about real events, about people as they were. Our beers carry the titles of his works.

In January 1889, from Cerignola, he wrote to his aunt that with a piano of his own and a little study he would play “a hundred times better than now”.
